More to Learn From Dr. Hereniko
Although his visit was a bit more focused on his 2004 film.  Dr. Hereniko’s resume is chock
full of award-contributions to Rotuman and Pacific Islander cultures since 1977.

volumes, media and performance, writing and producing plays, children’s books/stories,
journal articles, chapters in books, encyclopedia entries, foreword/introductions,
interviews of other writers, short stories and poems, and biography entries. (University of

There is a wealth of knowledge and a willing contributor to the progression of Pacific
Islanders in Dr. Vilsoni Hereniko.  His agreeing to present to a small audience of Pacific
Islander students at Long Beach State
is evidence of this willingness.  Furthermore, he
has given students who yearn for a Pacific Islander voice in Academia to rejoice and
made this event a memorable experience for all who attended.

The Land Has Eyes website allows you to order copies of the film; however, for those of
you who wish to make this a study, the website is equipped with research articles that
focus on the film, as well as Rotuma.  In addition to the research articles, there are links to
www.rotuma.net, which is handled by Alan Howard, who also writes some of the Rotuman
research.   Finally, the study guides come with a possible lesson plans that can be used
in conjunction with viewing the movies.
