Pasifika Voice Workshop

Pasifika Voice artists Andrew Vai, Terisa Siagatonu, and Genesis Leuta are presenting workshops at 3:00 pm prior to the Spoken Word event.  These workshops are FREE to the community.

Workshop # 1 – Pasifika Spoken Word

Led by Terisa Siagatonu and Andrew Vai

Everyone in the village knows of their duty: this one is ours.
Back then, they would call our people Orators. Griots. Storytellers. Today, we experience the voices of others telling our stories for us: on t.v., on the football field, in the military, in our history classes, to our faces. This writing workshop is more than just an opportunity to put pen to paper for the sake of writing: this is our need to re-claim our voices. To tell our own stories the way it should be: for our people, and for ourselves. Not because we can. But because our survival depends on it.

No prior experiences necessary: people of all writing/literacy levels are encouraged to come through.
We want writers.
We want non-writers.
We want people who have something to say.
We want people who are too shy to speak in a group.
We want people who express themselves easily.
We want people who believe they have nothing to show.
We want people who have talent.
We want people who have yet to discover what their talents are.
People of all origins, colors, shapes, creeds, and identities:
We don’t want you. We need you.

Workshop # 2 – Introduction to Design

This workshop will be led by Genesis Leuta, the graphic designer responsible for popular event flyers in the Pacific Islander community today. This workshop will help you to take basic ideas (i.e. basic geometrical forms – lines, squares, circles, etc.) and craft them into a masterpiece.

Four $100-prizes from One Global Family Foundation

One Global Family Foundation is offering 4 prizes of $100.00 each for four attendees to our workshops.

There is a $5 all-day charge for parking.
